Toy Story of Terror
Television Special | 22 min | 2013 | USA
Dir/Writer: Angus MacLane
SUMMARY: What starts out as a fun road trip for the ‘Toy Story’ gang takes an unexpected turn for the worse when the trip detours to a roadside motel. After one of the toys goes missing, the others find themselves caught up in a mysterious sequence of events that must be solved before they all suffer the same fate in this Toy Story of Terror.
My choice for this year’s Halloween is Pixar’s own Toy Story first ever television special, cleverly titled: Toy Story of Terror! The story picks up after the events of Toy Story 3 with Jessie as the leading lady this time. The short television presentation offers a bite size version of what a full feature Toy Story franchise could offer. Even if restrained by the given 22 minutes time frame it manage to deliver the hilarity (from Rex, Mr Potato Head, and Mr. Pricklepants), a touching sentiments of camaraderie and friendship, as well as overcoming personal obstacles.
Mr. Pricklepants quiped clever lines with the parallel between the short and standard horror films conventions. Causing panic and anxiety to some toys more than others. Although Jessie is not my favorite she become the final girl of the film, staying true to the genre conventions. She have to overcome her own past trauma, a reminiscent of Toy Story 2. But worry not, the horrific terror is delivered in true Pixar’s family friendly fashion that engages the audience by its emotional core not some bloody gore.
Toy Story of Terror might be a television short, but it manage to deliver a Pixar quality product in terms of wit, story, and presentation. I think a pixar fan would enjoy this treat indeed :D
