So yeah, i always excited about the Awards season, i even watch MTV Movie Award and Teen Choice just for having fun mocking the winners. So i’ve been anticipating for this year Emmy, just because Neil Patrick Harris is hosting. I enjoyed him in 2009 Emmy, but this one feel rather boring compared to that one. Maybe it was because Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, the Goddesses of comedy, sort of stole the show right at the beginning! This Emmy also have some of funny moments in the speeches imho, Meritt Weaver’s shortest speech ever (11 words: “Thanks so much. Thank you so much. I gotta go. Bye.”), Tony Hale and Julia Louis-Dreyfus speeches, and of course the double-entendres filled speech by Michael Douglas for his Liberace win.
Anyway, i still like this year’s Emmy compared to last years’. But everyone who know me know i’m only watching it for the Comedy category. Because a) the non-comedy i watched almost never nominated, or even if they were, they never won (eg: Game of Thrones), b) if the last few years is correct we all know it was gonna be Claire Danes winning again, despite so much win i still have zero interest in Homeland though.
So, without further ado, the winners for this year’s primetime Emmy awards for Comedy categories are:
Modern Family – Outstanding Comedy Series
Jim Parson (Sheldon Cooper, “The Big Bang Theory”) – Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Selina Meyer, “Veep”) – Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
Tony Hale (Gary Walsh, “Veep”) – Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Meritt Weaver (Zoey Barkow, “Nurse Jackie”) – Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Gail Mancuso (Arrested, “Modern Family”) – Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series
Tina Fey and Tracy Wigfield (Last Lunch, “30 Rock”) – Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series
I feel like i need to give Veep a try :) I’m not surprised with Modern Family win, i do love the show, i was shock that they did not win at the Supporting Actor category, since half of its nominees are Modern Family casts (Ed O’Neill, Jesse Tyler Fergusson, and Ty Burell). I’m happy for Jim Parsons win, of course. I even teared up a little with his humble acceptance speech :’)
On the other hand, Behind the Candelabra had a big win at the Emmy (including for Douglas and Soderbergh). David Fincher won for directing the first episode of House Of Card. Cranston is robbed from Outstanding Actor in Drama Series! But thank god his co-star Anna Gunn still won in the Supporting Actress category while the series itself won Outstanding Drama Series for the year, a proper adieu to their great run.
Now on to the more fun part of the show:
RED CARPET LOOKS
There’s not really a lot of dress that wow me on the red carpet of 2013 Primetime Emmy. But here’s a few lovely ones that caught my eyes. Zosia Mamet‘s floor length Honor Resort 2014 dress is edgy with leather bustier and futuristic-esque print, i wished the hemline was a little shorter so she wouldn’t look so drowned in it. Rose Byrne looking pretty as usual in her petal colored Calvin Klein. Kerry Washington‘s Marchesa Spring 2014 flowery dress is stunning, i don’t think it’s the best color for her though. Kiernan Shipka looking adorable and age appropriate in Delpozo Spring 2014.
I can not believe there are no decent red carpet picture of Emilia Clark, our khaleesi looked breathtakingly gorgeous in her custom made Donna Karan Atelier dress. It’s a shame there’s no decent red carpet photo of her. Jessica Paré‘s turquise ball gown from Oscar De La Renta Spring 2014 featured an exaggerated bodice and hemline, attention grabbing by its color alone, i just wish she accessorize it a little more. Alyson Hannigan looked elegant with her eggplant Marchesa Resort 2014 dress that gives a nice contrast to her auburn locks. Allison Williams look effortlessly chic with her cobalt blue Ralph Lauren Spring 2014.
IT’S THE DRESS. Claire Danes might win the best lead actress in drama series category, and her dress on its own is an ethereal Armani Privé Fall 2013 in nude with a plunging neckline. Claire is gorgeous but she just did not carry this dress well. But on it’s own, look at the breathtaking details of the lace alone! Superb!
FAVE #03: Lena Headey our queen looking as fierce as her character in sheer black snakeskin print dress by Alessandra Rich. Looking glam with simple nude make up to add an extra edge, combined with white L.A.M.B pumps. Simple is key.
FAVE #02: Julie Bowen wore a blush pink Zac Posen Resort 2014 dress with mermaid silhouette with exaggerated, dramatic ruffles construction. And she carried it with ease, elegance, and poise!
FAVE #01: My ultimate favorite of the evening was Michelle Dockery in her two-tone color-blocked dress by Prada. The gown is a ruby-red duchesse satin halter top with a bow-like detail at the back combined with burgundy silk radzmire skirt with flowing skirt with a low-high hemline that turn into a train at the back. Simple black strappy heels and red bejeweled clutch, and simple make up compliment the look nicely.
Now, which one is your favorite? XD Did your favorite TV show got the awards they deserve?
